Where do the Indigo Children fit in?

Long gone are the days of the Salem witch trials where women were imprisoned and put to death for suspicion of witchcraft and interaction with souls who had crossed over. Now is the time of a different generation, where books about Paganism and astral travel line the shelves of a nearby Barnes and Nobles free to anyone who wishes to look inside them .
For the most part the taboo of new age religion has lost its shock value and people have let their curiosity dig deeper then mainstream Christianity use to allow. As infants learning to walk, New Age society may have a new challenge ahead of itself with the Indigo Children that may be a direct result of their beliefs, but due to the large similarities that these Indigo Children have with children with ADHD, perhaps they are simply unruly kids.
The idea of an Indigo Child is a new theory suggesting that these children are a step up on the evolutionary scale from their parents, among many abilities they display multitasking, and creative skills along with physical and emotional sensitivity and heightened intuition. However, scientists insist that there has been no formal research done on this subject and that this idea is just a moneymaking scam for the New Age fanatics. Concerned parents of supposed Indigo Children are attempting to pick out certain unique symptoms their children display that are unlike the norm to further their case.
Wendy Chapman writes on metagifted.org, that some behavior challenges of an Indigo Child include refusal to follow directions, disliking school despite high intelligence, difficulty sitting for long periods, or extreme emotional sensitivity. Although these symptoms could catch a parent’s attention, many of the same symptoms are recorded on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website (cdc.gov) under Symptoms of ADHD along with being easily distracted and talking excessively. To make matters more frustrating for parents of Indigos, a lot of the symptoms that their children show are on a paranormal level which is still not as seriously looked at in mainstream science. So the answers are not easy to come by.
Paranormal research suggests that one of the things that make these children different from ADHD cases is their sixth sense abilities. An article on DallasObserver.com written by Jesse Hyde says, "We are watching humans evolve. Just like we’ve evolved to now we have an opposable thumb, we’re witnessing the human species evolve into a telepathic creature." ESP, telepathy, telekinesis, and predicting the future are some of the abilities these children are said to have. Unfortunately, scientists are usually indifferent to symptoms of this nature because of the inability to fully prove it. As a result it is almost impossible to find reliable and creditable evidence that these children are indeed suddenly being born with all of these abilities.
As new generations are created, so is the future pages of history. Maybe it is possible to suggest that these Indigo Children are just children who have never been told that they can’t see ghosts or auras, whose open-minded parents never told them to stop daydreaming, and science refuses to take it seriously. Maybe the parents are in denial and the kids need Ritalin. Or, perhaps they are indeed the beginning of a new breed of human. Either way the new generation is here and they are waiting for us to pass them the history book.
